In 2001, a challenge to the Itinerant Spinners
was put forth: to prepare and spin wool from the fleece. The fleece was purchased
by Karen Walter at the Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival at the Howard
County Fairgrounds.
After an exhausting search, the right fleece
was found: Bert. Bert is a Division I Natural Colored Rambouillet cross in
Class A: Fine and submitted to the Festival by Chris Stutz. There was 14
pounds of Bert that was purchased at $4 per pound. The results are still
